Overview
This policy covers the SkyMochi Weather iOS app and the skymochi.com website. The short version: we collect only what we need to show you the weather and sign you in. No analytics, and no ad tracking.
What the app collects
Location (GPS)
Used to show weather conditions, radar, and alerts for your current position. Location is requested only while the app is in use. It is sent to Apple WeatherKit to fetch your forecast, and to our notification server only when you enable lightning or severe weather alerts. We do not log or store your location history.
Account (Sign in with Apple)
SkyMochi Weather uses Sign in with Apple to create your account. When you sign in, we receive your email address and the identifier Apple provides, which are stored on SkyMochi's server. We use them to sign you in and to sync your settings across your devices. You can hide your email using Apple's Private Relay.
Push notification device token
If you enable lightning or severe weather alerts, your device token and approximate location are stored on our server so we can deliver those alerts. This data is deleted from our server when you turn off alerts in Settings, or on request.
App preferences
Units, saved locations, and notification settings are stored on your device and synced to your account so they carry across your devices.
The website
skymochi.com does not ask you for any personal information. The site has no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party trackers. If you emailed us before launch to hear when the app was released, that address is held only for that purpose and is never shared. You can have it removed any time by emailing hello@skymochi.com.
What we do not collect
- No analytics or usage tracking
- No advertising identifiers (IDFA)
- No passwords (Sign in with Apple handles authentication)
- No contacts, photos, or health data
- No crash reports sent to third-party services
Third-party services
The app uses these external services to function:
- Apple WeatherKit: forecast data. Subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.
- Map and weather data providers: radar, satellite imagery, and map tiles are fetched from third-party providers. These requests include your device's IP address but no account or personal information.
Data retention and deletion
Push tokens stored on our server are deleted automatically when you disable alerts in the app. You can delete your account and any synced settings from within the app, or by emailing hello@skymochi.com with the subject "Delete my data." Deleting the app removes the data stored on your device.
Children
SkyMochi Weather is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance.
